The Lost Tapes, Volume Two

October 7, 2008

Big shoutout and thanks to all of y'all, who helped me get featured on Current TV! And I still need ideas for stuff to talk about, so keep 'em coming.. It's hard for me not to spend every waking moment fixated on the election right now, but I want to resist making every video about that..

Now before I head back into the lab here are a few more classics from the archive, that I just added to blip.tv:

  • Hip-Hop is Dead (For You) - An early favorite, and one of Tyka's first starring appearances.

  • Bill O'Reilly Is Mad, Doggie - Another old favorite, and one I still get lots of comments on. Little did I know a year later this would lead to me co-starring in a Nas video..!

  • How To Avoid George Bush Syndrome - Learning from our president, why the "Failure Is Not An Option" mindset makes failure inevitable.

  • On Being First - A follow up to my first Little Hater video.

  • Why You Should Boycott Kanye and 50 - A somewhat cynical breakdown of last year's showdown between Kanye West and 50 Cent.

  • Ten Things To Do Instead of Buying Kanye and 50's Albums - A follow up with some better ways to spend that $15, or however much CDs cost these days.. I haven't bought one since like 1992 or something.

  • How to Rap In Three Languages, Part One and Part Two - A classic live performance from my radio show, teaming up freestyle champions from NYC (End of the Weak), England (Stig), France (Warlock) and Germany (Iago). I've since been told that this was actually four languages, since Warlock had some Arabic mixed in with his French, North African style..

  • And last but not least check this remix of my Little Hater vids, sent over by the esteemed Bill Cammack.
  • Also gotta give a shoutout to Connie Schultz at the Cleveland Plain Dealer who gave me this nice little writeup, my man SF/J for bigging me up at the New Yorker, and whoever was responsible for putting my picture in the latest Vibe (thus allowing me to pretend I wasn't buying it for the Ciara pics).

    Here's a topic:

There's a Biggie movie coming. The Wu movie is almost here. The Wackness taught Ben Kingsley to love some 94 Hip Hop.

What's Hip Hop's role in Hollywood now and does it affect the music? Discuss.

Good mix, esp. the 10 better things to do with $15. A couple ideas:

-How Yung Berg keeps losing, first losing his chain in Detroit and then with Maino slapping him. I feel like there's an interesting story in there about the expectations people have of young new rappers, how he may or may not have been trying to live up to them, and how they may have put him in these previous two situations. Then again, you're less about gossipy shit like that, so who knows.

Either way, this is a good way to tide me/us over until new material.

you employ what is usually a garrulous, self-indulgent medium to disperse reflective commentary about things that actually matter. it's nice when that kind of work gets recognized; congratulations on the increased exposure.

The Hip-Hop is Dead (For You) video is a classic and very on point.

I was listening to the Underground Railraod a couple of weeks ago (great show as usual) when you guys discussed the state of DJing (i.e. so called 'Mash-Ups'). Please expand on that... I find the term 'Mash Up' just as amusing! LOL

    Podcast. Underground Railroad. Thoughts?

how about this for a topic. Help me (a person who adores hip hop) not hate Wynton Marsalis.

Being completely entrenched in all things the election myself, I can understand your desire to be balanced in your topics. The more I think about it though, your "voice" is needed now more than ever to make sure people really know what is at stake in this election. If you think that your work can help influence the change that we need (which I of course absolutely believe it can), keep doing election related videos if that's most on your mind. Those who want to hear about other topics from you will forgive after Obama is elected.

    ok, ok....this one video...
Why You Should Boycott 50 & Kanye...
Jay, does that pertain to JUST that one isolated incident, or is it somewhat of a metaphor for the upcoming future of our nation?

If not, would you discuss the upcoming tensions, theories, and facts, such as Martial Law & its Executive Orders, the gov't agenda known as Operation's Cable Splicer and Garden Plot?

Also, MEGA buzz about this FAR-FETCHED rumor thats supposed to be happening October 14th 2008? (google that date for those who dont know)

The 700 BILLION dollar bailout plan, and its effect on the norm?

You say everything so articulate and easily, its like all the things i wanna say, but dont know how to, u say it with ease, and i appreciate that.
