The Reckoning of Dorothy Parker
September 29, 2008
Last week Radiohead released the master tracks for "Reckoner", so that fans could do their own remixes.. I took a stab at mixing it with one of my other favorite songs, andd will share the results here:

I like it. Starts off a tiny bit maligned and definitely comes together well. And I don't know of anyone else mixing Prince. That seems tough to do.

Beautiful. You can just close your eyes and it kinda soaks in. Should definitely submit this.

Thumbs up. Considering I will never hear that Prince cover of "Creep", this will be the closest thing. Very nice.

Love it, Jay. What I also love is when bands release master tracks for remixing; it's great to hear what the fans can put together and completely in the spirit of how music should be treated.

The mellow beat compliments the song very well. Definitely better than the original. Great work!

Really nice and chill. It's the perfect beat for unwinding after a VERY long day.

Man, I really like this remix. How can I go about downloading it? The Imeen link doesn't seem to work. Can you host it as a Quicktime?

lovely in that weird ethereal radiohead pre-apocalyptic suicide inducing kind of way. kind of gives a little bit of funk to the ole daily dose of antidepressants and lightens up the idea of swan diving from the catwalk of a train bridge...
(what i mean, sans sarcasm, is that i like it.)

i'm feelin this a lot... could you make it available for download?
Posted by: reyshizz at October 1, 2008 9:02 PM
Hey, loved your take on this one... first as a big radiohead fan and then the beats you mixed in made it just perfect. Really perfect. I love how they let fans tweak their songs. Only one question, so um, can I get a copy? I tried that nifty download button but, um, that don't work.

Another vote for "make available for download please!"

one of my favorite Prince songs ever, and works so well with Thom's ethereal voice. nice little details in your edit too, like the pause before 'you are not to blame...' sweet stuff.

An intoxicating string of celestial algorithms manifested in a sophistic psychedelic vibe….
And I mean sophistry of the complementary variety (For THOSE minds that are able to walk THAT mile ;-)… Jay Smooth, my brother, you are deeper than republican pockets.

This might be my favorite Prince song of all Prince songs. (Assuming one can have that sort of thing.) Mostly because she hadn't seen the movie cause she didn't read the book first, or something like that. Good advice. And I'm not mad at Radiohead either.

Hey Jay,
Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your mash-up of Prince & Radiohead.
I'm a big big fan of "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker" and, I was initially sceptical about the choice.
But, now that I've heard it, i love it - occasional key & scale clashes an' all!
The dreamy evocative mood has been kept intact - which is a good thing.
Thom's falsetto works well over the music.
Though, ironically Prince didn't sing falsetto (for once!) on this particular song.
He did, however, track some vocals and instrumentation with the tape machine pitched down. Not unusual for Prince!
Makes me wonder what Thom's voice would sound like with other gospel-tinged, rhythm & blues, soul based music. Hmmm... intriguing!
Congrats again :)

This is an absolutely beautiful remix of my favorite Prince song. As much as I would love to have it, I think Prince's permission would be needed for us to be able to download it. Stunning remix though. I almost wish I had'nt heard now that I can't download it.

Oh come on, there's gotta be a way for us to get this downloaded. It's killing me. I can't stop listening to this. Hopefully someone reading this will make it happen for us. I hate to think of something as beautiful as this just disappearing, or being forgotten.
