Fox News Vs. CNN Vs. WWE

November 14, 2007

Finally, CNN gives us proof that TV news is faker than professional wrestling. They also did the same dirty work on Nancy Pelosi last week.

well said - how crappy and pointless. tangentially, from a (purist) fan's perspective, steroid busts were the best thing that could've happened to wwf in the early 90s - causing macmahon to push smaller guys like michaels and hart over the super-heavies that are dominating again today.

Posted by: Ass Hat at November 14, 2007 7:33 AM

oh man jay..

there's nothing more to say, you're the man.

Posted by: TakaM at November 14, 2007 8:17 AM

Well done, once again, Professor JSmooth!!!! :)

Posted by: Alia at November 14, 2007 8:41 AM

LMAO! I thought it was a very good video already, then you threw in that Simpsons reference at the very end... Brilliant!

Posted by: Cosmic Monster at November 14, 2007 9:31 AM

A link to Horse's Mouth! Crazy stuff. We're big fans over here at TPM, Jay. Bizarre and wonderful to know you read a post of ours.

Posted by: Golis at November 14, 2007 9:38 AM

CNN does suck for no reason. Ma be you should get a show on CNN than it would not suck so bad? Great video!

Posted by: Alien Farmer at November 14, 2007 10:02 AM

hahaha, that was a laughoutlouder

Posted by: colin at November 14, 2007 1:35 PM

First time I've been here, but very glad someone twittered a link to this video. Truly makes you stop and question EVERYTHING you see on TV.

Keep up the great work.

Snagged. :/

CNN is full of shit. That was foul. Dude should have been LIVID when he saw their edit.

There oughtta be laws. :/

Great post. And your point about FOX being very good at what they do -- even though what they do is horrible -- is well-made.

I'm sure there were hangmen who did a bang-up job in the Middle Ages as well. Nothing like taking pride in one's work, even if one's work is deplorable.

Now, if those skilled FOX News employees would only use their powers for good...

Posted by: Justin Kownacki at November 14, 2007 2:21 PM

It gets better: Cena put out a rap record a couple years back. Which means that, yet again, this is a case of cable news journalism completely fucking up the context of something a rapper says.

Posted by: Nate P. at November 14, 2007 4:12 PM

I just went to and did a search under both their news and video sections for John Cena. No topics were found. Could it be they're trying to acknowledge the fuck up by playing possum?

Posted by: Dave C. at November 14, 2007 4:24 PM

On a few points about FOX, I agree.
It is crappy and a tool of propaganda for the GOP.
They do a good job of being the machine for the Rep. agenda.
But I can't respect it. For the people who only get their news from one outlet, it is what they have grown to respect and trust for their daily news feeds. Real journalism need be fair and balanced. You don't get that with FOX. First they give you a headline, then an opinion, then an extension of opinion (mostly with other talking heads) and now an issue that is pointed, and backed by some motive for an interest group that is packaged and processed for John and Mary Dumbamerican to digest. John and Mary don't even have to use critical thought to understand their news. It's a journalistic cheeseburger fit for consumption. A perfect little McDonaldized news story.

Hilarious Simpsons reference. Great video, once again.

Posted by: Joseph at November 14, 2007 8:09 PM

Posted by: deframon at November 15, 2007 11:10 AM

I think the more fundamental problem is that both Fox News and CNN call themselves "news" organizations. But instead they both seek to entertain audiences. Furthermore, both organizations are corporations which seek to increase profits (as corporations do).

These news organizations fail to accomplish the tasks set out for the media at the time of the birth of this country: to be platforms for alternate explanations and to provide factual information to the citizens. The failure of both organizations to inform or present alternate ideas is a costly one for a "democratic" society.

keep'em coming jay! how are you able to be so consistent!!!!

Much respect as usual my man.

You are one bad azz blogger, Hot shit once again!
Hilarious edit at the end too! HAHA

Posted by: sauceBoss at November 15, 2007 5:07 PM

I work in the news media as a journalist in New York. I cover the campaign, as well as the United Nations for a small news company. I'm about as left-leaning as they come, and couldn't agree more about your comments regarding Fox News. ALL the cable news networks engage in propaganda. Fox does it better than the others, and they're reviled for it. To the viewers of cable news, let me remind you: don't believe the hype.

ummm...random, but: Hey, jay smoothe...

what are you're thoughts on hip hop album reviews, past and present?

Posted by: vid santoro at November 17, 2007 11:36 AM

Great post...I always wondered what the bolder claim was. Fair & Balanced or The Most Trusted Name In News

Posted by: Maurice Garland at November 18, 2007 12:50 PM

Amen. CNN's editing is getting really bad. It's like they've prostituted themselves to the Corporate machine. Keep up the good work,

Posted by: Aly at November 24, 2007 3:40 AM

What???!!! CNN & Fox (not to mention NBC, CBS, ABC and the rest of the alphabet) don't report news accurately (or truthfully?)? Next thing you'll tell me is that these news organizations are owned by corporations who seek only to push their respective biased agendas!!

Posted by: deidra at November 25, 2007 8:32 AM

How many WWF stars of early 90s are alive??They mostly died of steriod related issues

Posted by: DB100 at November 29, 2007 8:29 AM

The ending was great jay - i'm glad someone else brought this to light besides the 'normal' bloggers.

2 thumbs up man!

Posted by: Vizion at November 29, 2007 3:18 PM

Sadly they just might make a segment of "Hip-Hop community adores us!" and actually take the last part as being literal instead of you ripping them a new asshole hahaha!

Keep up the great commentary!

Posted by: Jay Smooth at December 5, 2007 3:44 PM

Jay, love the site. New vlog coming soon?

Posted by: e40 at December 6, 2007 10:03 AM

What a takedown. Shame on CNN, the bastards.

"randomly crappy" ha ha

This needs wider play, maybe at Media Matters for America.

Posted by: Via at December 19, 2007 12:22 AM

Jay -- You said this type of news benefits no one but it does benefit CNN because sensationalized stories sell better (read: are more widely read) than "absolutely not" stories, hence the use of random crappiness. Great vid nonetheless.
