Yo. Word up Jay-S. Congrats. I found you in Wired this month. Yes, I'm a hip-hop geek. Anyway, keep it up. So far I'm hooked.

Cream rises to the top. Enjoy your work and style. Looking forward to this month of daily posts. Singing. Not so much. But if you are taking requests ... I'd like to see/hear you belt out a rendition of "My Way".
Congrats!

For your September Experiment could you please talk about out a 12 track Lp there maybe 2 legit tracks. Joell Ortiz/Common/Talib/Ugk didn't fall into that mold but most of the albums are 2 pump chumps
Posted by: K.Wills at September 7, 2007 10:17 AM
Sweeeeet! How about you talk about where the female mc has gone in America. Where is Jean Grey?
Posted by: Biggs Malone at September 7, 2007 10:41 AM
Since you are doing all these videos this month I might be of some assistance with editing the videos. I am a video editor for my profession and I subscribe to your blogs. If you are interested...contact me ;)

As Rakim is your witness, hunh?
Ok well speak on why these sucka-ass new dudes (quote me. but first test it out by saying "jive turkey) don't have scratchin on their new albums.
I snuck and tried to be positive and listened to several new albums including Lupe's little shit.
And I want you touch on the abscence of the all important element of scratchin in Hip Hop music.
Laptop, Serrato-ass suckas!
Speak on it, God!

I'm a big fan of lists, Jay. Let's see a blog of your 10 favorite funny scenes from hip-hop videos. And splice in the actual scenes. YouTube is your friend.

Love the site, however I keep getting a damn "stack overflow error" when I click on a link or leave the site. Anyone else?
Posted by: chill.tron at September 7, 2007 7:57 PM
chill-tron: Yeah I think that's a bug in podtech's video player, hopefully is being worked on. It only happens in IE though, so maybe it is meant as karmic retribution for not switching to Firefox.

Congrats Jay! I found out about you on Stereohyped which also won a Black Weblog award. Anyway, good luck with the experiment but please refrain from singing. It's not a good look, bro.
Posted by: Michelle at September 7, 2007 8:45 PM
congrats on the win, Jay.
you deserve it.
here's a topic you may want to discuss during this momentous month of posting:
Why Baby Boomers Abhor Hip-Hop.
I'll be driving around bumpin some nice rap, no commercial gangsta gangsta shit, im talkin old school nas, main source, tribe, common, wu-tang, you get the idea and these jokers get the worst angryfaces I ever seen. They are also liable to move up 9 feet at a red light when they hear the knock.
like that 9 feet is gonna stop the power of the bass in their eye.
Posted by: Jay B at September 7, 2007 9:46 PM
Rose, Harburg, and Arlen would be proud. :)
Posted by: Paul Dateh at September 7, 2007 10:30 PM
worve to masta ace
yo i noticed the same shit.
people know the real.
that shit is like garlic to vampyres or something.
but on the bright side, I discovered two things over the weekend that all y'all prolly already knew:
1. You CAN do the wop of off Eric B is President.
and
2. Fela's Water No Get No Enemy. I'm so late on this I know. I know. Joey Blanco at the rekkid store told me to get it in '98. Now I'm just bumpin Grown Man Sport Instrumental over and over(Pete Rock strikes again) to make up for it.

Congrats Smooth, and yes i did vote for you. But then again, as someone suggested, i would even vote for you for president of the United States of North America.
You’ve asked for vid ideas. Two come to mind: Can you explain why somebody...say like Paul Robeson, does not get sampled in Hip Hop more? Or has he?
And can you talk, in some kind of context, about the importance of drinking more Water?
Sorry, strike that...
I don’t really have second idea.

Congrats on the awards, I'm a huge fan of your videos. The one that really impressed me was your commentary on Nas Vs. O'Reilly. You need to speak on these stupid "Ringles." Hmm... other random ideas..... Where the fuck is Detox?... Kanye vs. 50 vs. Kenny Chesney vs. Osama.... Sam Jackson "crankin dat Soulja Boy"... you could always speak on some artists your into that no one else knows about....
Keep up the good work!

peace
I love crack
Posted by: i luv crack at September 8, 2007 9:17 PM
I dunno, Smooth.
I was trying to be stubborn and when they had all those reissues/comps floodin' the rekkid stores I just didn't wanna be on the bandwagon.
Now I feel extra guilty cause not only was Fela wicked with the lead on the music tip, he also was an activist.
(changes subject)
But hey! I know now.
That's all the counts right?

Well, well, with all your hard work for all these years someone finally takes notice, but it's Wired Magazine? Cool that way we know that you got it on your merits alone. Now that's Hip-Hop breaking down barriers and new ground. Plus Wired Magazine is cool. Peace.
