KRS One: How to See Your Future

August 6, 2007

Here's a clip from KRS One's show this weekend at the Prospect Park Bandshell in Brooklyn. He tells the crowd how 25 years ago he was homeless and sleeping right in this very bandshell, and he told himself back then, "one day, I'm gonna rock this park."

REAL TALK!!! I'm originally from Park Slope and me and my little brother and sister use to run around and play in that damn shell every chance we got!!! Ajajajajajajaja...

Damn, gentrification is horrible.

One of the true greats...Every time he comes to my new neck of the woods (Ft. Liquordale - originally BRICK CITY) I take my (now 17 years old) son to witness him speak...then freestyle...then speak some more...then drop knowledge, freestyle...and speak some more...there is a reason he is called TEACHA, my son hasn't ever listened to a Teacher like he's been mesmerized by KRS-One

That's why they call him the teacher. I hope the people at the show really understood the knowlege KRS just dropped on them.

He may not have the illest lyrical abilty no more, but he still represents the essence of hip-hop.

thanks jay. my mother (rip) and father brought me to america that same year 1980. i'm glad they visualized my future enough to bring me to the bronx, where i heard hip hop for the first time. i have never been the same since. and, like krs, i'm in my dream right now too! i used to always say "someone should give me a show" and then, the internet let me give MYSELF a show!

Blessing for posting this - I'm going to share it with my crowd. Need (positive) reinforcement right about now.

Thank you KRS-One where ever you are on the planet! Your words helped me in ways you cannot know but heal just the same.

As much as I love KRS and some of what he's saying. I'm still waiting for him to come to the hood when he comes to my part of town. He knows who I am and how to reach me.

Good one-brought back major memories for me as a Brooklyn kid(albeit away for longer than I lived there). KRS has a good message. Hiphop didn't blow up until after I moved to Asia. Will have to turn my son on to some KRS-1.

I guess KRS summed up why I went to Baghdad, and why we're moving the bar on what should be accepted as reasonable coverage of a war. I've thought about Iraq almost everyday since I was a teenager.

But who'd have thought it? Anyway, thanks for that little bit of inspiration. And check out the newest project, www.AliveInMexico.org

There’s a great video with KRS-One on SF Iam. KRS-ONE is one of the pioneers in rap, and hip-hop, back in the day with it was called “the jam.” KRS-One tells it like it is to a group of students at the Academy of Art in San Francisco.

KRS has got a great philosophy on school and life. You can check out the vid here:
