John Lee Hooker "I Get Money" Freestyle

July 18, 2007

A video mashup of this John Lee Hooker over this 50 Cent (with Howlin Wolf on the intro in lieu of Funkmaster Flex). Probably makes more sense if you've already watched the 50 video.

I picked these out only because I thought the music would mix well, but the contrast also makes me ponder how Black music's relationship with money has changed between then and now...

Love the mash-up. It's funny how the music industry is imploding upon itself (look at RIAA 2007 reports) because people don't buy the crap that it's been pushing although you would not be able to tell from the marketing budgets.

Keep doing what you do man. It's great stuff. I'm doing what I can to change the game but so far the experience is like diving in a pool of shit to save some one else's ass. Wish me "luck" and life.

It really doesn't sound that similar at all, but why did this mash up make me think of 'Smoke and Mirrors' and "Work" off RJD2's "Deadringer"?

Anybody else feel me on that? Or am I trippin?

The major difference is that artist are more consumed by being business men/women than artist. It is a hard balancing act to pull off; because if artist arent up on their business, the record companies WILL take advantage of them.

American Blues has inspired the music of the Taureg/Imoshagh/Amazigh ... many names, same people who live in various countries throughout Africa. Mostly, if they are not speaking their language or Arabic they are speaking French. But I found this site with English subtitles for a group called Tinariwen:

here is the same group with Carlos Santana:

Great mash-up.
But at the same time, it makes me sad.
What a fascianting idea to mix this bluesy talk of (no) money with 50's cocky stankin-rich-attitude.
peace,
a.

I know I am way late to this party, but that was about a minute and a half of perfection ad irony. Beautiful...

Yo! I knows it's old, but I have been running this song ALL DAY LONG! I want to have this on loop in my iPod. can a brotha get a download?

And I'm feeling you on the juxtaposition of music and money. But I think most everyone has had the blues whereas very few have had the feeling of the wealth shown in the 50 video. So I feel more in tune with the old blues man. Is that progress?
